Where AOW3 had your units be affected by several basic morale modifiers, like racial happiness, wealthy empire, leader bonus, won 3 battles in a row, and so on.So where is the strong point in u combo? druids biggest unit is summoned, not produced, so the growth/gold income is not the main priority for that class. Or you stack several buff spells which only give like +5 morale each. Instead it is possible to hit your own units like in Planetfall.Īnd if that wasn't enough, there seem to be no initial morale bonus for any unit, so you never can assume any crits (avoiding Graze) unless you already made several kills in an ongoing battle. This plays out pretty poorly with units not turning around when being hit from a different angle, so there's no way to "free" your pinned ranged units without killing the pinning unit.Īdditionally, the whole accuracy / miss / graze / fumble mechanic means that ranged units rarely manage to deal their nominal damage. ![]() They also don't have anything like Sprint or Slippery to compensate. Ranged units not having any form of melee attack is also awful, meaning that you always take a free hit without retaliation, and another flanking hit from having to move out of the control zone. Or getting a target in range to begin with. Which means if the unit wasn't standing in the perfect spot at the end of its turn, it loses at least 33% of its damage from having to move just to get a better shot. Now in AOW4 you always lose one action point from moving. The standard range for missile attacks is 4 tiles, which is the same as the standard movement range.Įdit: This is already a downgrade, since infantry move range is 4 and missile range is 5 in AOW3Īdditionally, in AOW3 (and Planetfall) every unit can at least move 1 tile without losing an action point. So what's wrong with the ranged units in AOW4 compared to AOW3? ![]()
